The yin and the yang represent the two opposing fundamental properties of nature and the universe in ancient Taiji Chinese philosophy. Superhydrophilicity and superhydrophobicity are fundamentally opposing properties of wettability. Reversible switching between these surface properties can be thermally induced through the combination of chemical modification of the surface, and surface roughness.
