Electron‐deficient ruthenium complex [Cp*Ru(SDmp)] ( 1 ; SDmp=2,6‐dimesitylphenylthiolate, Cp*=η 5 ‐C 5 Me 5 ) is stabilized by the coordination of C ipso of one mesityl group of SDmp. It serves as a precursor to coordinatively unsaturated species in two ways: by the lability of C ipso in reactions with ligands L, and by reversible dissociation/association of the SDmp ligand in the regioselective cyclotrimerization of substituted alkynes (see scheme).
