The use of a gas microstrip detector in X‐ray absorption spectroscopy allows energy‐resolved electron detection under ambient conditions and thereby nondestructive depth profiling or greatly improved surface sensitivity (see scheme). Results of an in situ study of a heterogeneous chemical reaction and preliminary electrochemical experiments are discussed.
