Two compounds in one : The boron‐rich ternary compound Gd 5 Si 2 B 8 represents a new structure type containing independent ordered boron and silicon substructures of compositions GdB 4 and Gd 3 Si 2 , respectively, alternating along the c direction (see structure). The compound exhibits metallic character, which is supported by theoretical investigations, and has a rather complex magnetic structure.
