Functionalizing fullerenes : The first regioselective polyhydrogenation of [60]fullerene has been achieved. Upon treatment of [60]fullerene or its derivative with 9,10‐dihydroanthracene in the presence of [Re 2 (CO) 10 ], transfer hydrometallation reaction takes place to give a polyhydrogenation product (see scheme). The reaction provided a pathway to a variety of metal η 5 complexes of hydrofullerenes.
