A unique structure : In the crystalline state the lanthanum copper sulfide La 2 CuS 4 comprises discrete anion triples. These are composed of almost planar triangular [CuS 3 ] 5− units, which consist of Cu + and S 2− ions linked through a − SS − ‐dumbbell to form the [S 3 Cu⋅⋅⋅SS⋅⋅⋅CuS 3 ] 12− anion (see picture).
