Welcome to the family : The previously unknown discrete pentafluoroaluminate [(CH 3 ) 4 N] + 2 [AlF 5 ] 2− salt, a missing link of the homoleptic fluoroaluminate family, is synthesized from [(CH 3 ) 4 N] + [AlF 4 ] − and [(CH 3 ) 4 N] + F − . IR and Raman spectroscopic data along with 27 Al MAS NMR spectroscopy investigations reveal a perfect and unperturbed trigonal‐bipyramidal structure (see picture).
