An exceptionally useful tool in the development of novel chiral catalysts for carbonyl chemistry is the activation of carbonyl groups by double hydrogen bonding (see scheme). A diverse set of reactions such as the asymmetric Diels–Alder, hetero‐Diels–Alder, aldol, and Morita–Baylis–Hillman reactions can be accelerated by such double‐hydrogen‐bonding catalysts.
