The dialane molecule (Al 2 H 6 , see structure) is highly unstable in the condensed phase, and hence it was more than half a century after the discovery of aluminum hydride that it was identified in a hydrogen matrix. Apart from such fundamental findings, the rapidly developing chemistry of the binary main‐group hydrides is also aimed at synthetic applications.
