Cobalt takes to superacid : By using the superacid system (CF 3 ) 3 BCO and anhydrous HF the title complex (see structure O blue, C black, Co cyan, F red, B light brown) is formed in a one pot reaction of [Co 2 (CO) 8 ]. The oxidizing agent is postulated to be H 2 F $\rm{{{+\hfill \atop {\rm solv}.\hfill}}}$ which is generated in situ.
