The independent variation of two seemingly unrelated parameters , namely NaCl concentration and water hydrogen isotopologues, can tune the formation of both similar (P1 and P2) and dissimilar (P3) supramolecular Mn 16 aggregates in aqueous solutions. Surprisingly, a structurally intermediate phase P2, however, forms in H 2 O, but not in D 2 O.
