Teaching an old dog a new trick : A novel square‐planar iridium( I ) system undergoes facile thermal intermolecular CH activation process at ambient temperature (see scheme). The observed unusual low activation barrier is analyzed and traced by DFT methods which provide guidelines for the design of novel systems, which would allow the activation of methane under mild conditions.
