Overcrowding with phenyl group forces the polycyclic, aromatic hydrocarbons out of planarity. The X‐ray structure analysis of 1 shows that the molecule has a record end‐to‐end twist of 105°; yet it is very stable in the solid state and can be heated to 400°C without decomposition.
