Capped octahedral and square antiprismatic structures are seen for the homoleptic anions [W(CH 3 ) 7 ] − and [Re(CH 3 ) 8 ] 2− . Therefore these anions show no structural anomalies, in contrast to the neutral molecules [W(CH 3 ) 6 ] and [Re(CH 3 ) 6 ]. The picture on the right shows the structure of [Li(OEt 2 )][W(CH 3 ) 7 ] without the diethyl ether molecule.
