Unexpected reactivity of in situ generated carbene complex anions in seen upon treatment with a P ‐chloro(methylene)phosphane. A stereoselective PC coupling reaction provides the η 1 ‐2‐phosphabutadiene complexes 1a,b . Thermal isomerization of these compounds leads to the novel η 1 ‐2,3‐dihydrophosphete complexes 2a,b. a : M Cr; b : M W.
