[(η 5 ‐C 5 Me 5 )AlFe(CO) 4 ]—Synthesis, Structure, and Bonding

The bonding in the unprecedented complex [Cp * AlFe(CO) 4 ] (depicted on the right) was investigated by quantum theoretical methods by using the model compound [CpAlFe(CO) 4 ]. The strength of Al → Fe donor – acceptor bond, which is characteristic for this complex, is estimated to be about 50 kcal mol −1 .
