The bonding in heteropolyhedral compounds of the closo ‐borane type is discussed for “As 2 (AlCp * ) 3 ” clusters, whose molecular structure has been characterized by X‐ray crystallography (framework shown on the right). Quantum chemical calculations on several trigonal‐bipyramidal E   2 V E   3 IIIstructures revealed the mode of bonding for a variety of ligands (Cp * = C 5 Me 5 ; E III : Group 13 element, E V : Group 15 element).
