Channels measuring roughly 5.2 × 7.6 Å (OO distances) are found in the first microporous borophosphate (a section of the structure is shown on the right). Ethylenediamine serves as a template in the hydrothermal synthesis. The framework is constructed from BO 4 and PO 4 tetrahedra and CoO 6 octahedra, and organic dications occupy the channels.
