The first carbene complexes 1 (R = H, Me; X = Cl, Br) of divalent chromium were obtained selectively by addition of hydrogen halides to the metal–carbon triple bond in [(η 5 ‐C 5 R 5 )(CO) 2 Cr≡CN i Pr 2 ]. These carbene complexes react with isocyanides, phosphanes, and phosphites to give cationic Cr II carbene complexes.
