Six trimethylene bridges link the phenyl rings of the “pinwheel” compound 1 , which was synthesized from [3 5 ](1,2,3,4,5)cyclophane. An intramolecular aldol condensation serves as the key step for introducing the final trimethylene bridge. The NMR spectroscopic data suggest a highly symmetrical and dynamic structure for 1 .
