An unprecendently simple metallaphosphaalkene , which can be readily and reversibly protonated to provide a complex of the otherwise unstable phosphaalkene HPCH t Bu, is the product of the first hydrometalation of phosphaalkynes [Eq. (a); [Ru] RuCl(CO)(PPh 3 ) 2 , R t Bu].
