Analogous to the synthesis of MCM‐41 , a mesostructured product (shown schematically on the right) can be obtained from aqueous solutions of zirconium sulfate by addition of alkyltrimethylammonium salts. After a treatment with phosphoric acid, this material can be calcined without structural collapse. The resulting zirconium oxo phosphate shows BET surface areas of up to 400 m 2 g −1 .
