Redox reactions in the initial products formed from K 2 [Cr(CO) 5 ] and Cl 2 ER (E = Al, Ga; R = Cl, alkyl) lead to the formation of aluminum( I ) and gallium( I ) transition metal complexes of type 1 (shown below) that are surprisingly stable. Stoichiometric CrGa films were prepared from 1 (E = Ga, R = CH 2 CH 3 ) by MOCVD. tmeda = N,N,N ′, N ′,‐tetramethylethylenediamine.
