By using “naked” fluoride ions in the form of tetramethylammonium fluoride or hexamethylpiperidinium fluoride, the fluorocarbonate (fluoroformate) [FCO 2 ] − can be synthesized. This anion has an extraordinarily weak CF bond. It was characterized by 13 C solid‐state NMR, IR, and Raman spectroscopy, as well as by ab initio calculations.
