The first examples of an expectedly large class of rare earth carbide halides are the new compounds Gd 4 Br 3 C 2 B, La 3 Br 2 C 2 B, and Ce 6 Br 3 C 3 B 2 . Their structures contain low‐dimensional fragments of the three‐dimensional network of metal boride carbides; typical building units are discrete C atoms, and BC, CBBC, and CBC groups. The projection of the structure of Gd 4 Br 3 C 2 B along [010] is shown on the right. • = B, ○ = C, ○ = Gd.
