Highly volatile and unstable in the pure form , the 2 H ‐azepine 1 has been synthesized for the first time. This compound is a “spin‐off” from work on the chemistry of azepine alkaloids, which occur in the mushroom Chalciporus piperatus . In addition, a bicyclic product of a surprising Diels–Alder reaction forms in the cyclization step.
