Symmetric, unsymmetric, and bridged perfluorinated trialkylphosphanes and diphosphanes are accessible for the first time by the general method outlined in this communication. In the synthesis, trialkylphosphanes are treated with elemental fluorine, and the resulting difluorotris(perfluoroalkyl)phosphoranes reduced to the desired perfluorinated phosphanes with tris(trimethylsilyl)phosphane.
