Good access to the title compounds is provided by the reaction shown below. Compound 1 reacts readily with secondary amines to give N,N ‐dialkylaminocyclopentadienes 2 , whose Li salts can be treated, for example, with FeCl 2 to give the ferrocene derivatives 3 .
