Crowns of thiophenes of type 2 with five, six, and eight heterocycles were obtained in moderate to good yields in the reaction of the appropriate [ n ]rotanes of type 1 and Na 2 S. In the crystal 2 adopts a chairlike conformation with three thiophene S atoms above and three below the equatorial plane of the macrocycle.
