A hypervalent, one‐dimensional polymer with interlocking zigzag chains (shown on the right) is obtained in the reaction of diiodoacetylene with tris(dimethylamino)cyclopropenylium iodide. The formation of the first stable 1:1 adduct from I − ions and a compound with C sp ‐bonded I centers is attributed to strong n → σ * interactions.
