Elimination of alcohols from the Ir III complexes 1 to give 2 is feasible and competes favorably with β‐H elimination to give 3 . This supports proposals that OH reductive elimination is the product‐forming step in industrially important processes such as CO hydrogenation and alcohol homologation. The ancillary π‐donating chloride has a paramount role in this process. L PEt 3 , PMe 3 .
