Oxidative cyclization of 1 with Br 2 yields the tetracoordinate 1,2λ 4 ‐oxathietane 2 . Instead of an olefin, thermolysis of 2 provided benzophenone and the ketone formed by migration of a phenyl group. Traces of 2,2,3‐triphenyloxirane were observed, which hints that a 1,2λ 4 ‐oxathietane may be an intermediate in the Corey–Chaykovsky reaction.
