The simple aldehyde complexes 1–3 are obtained pure and crystalline under strictly anhydrous conditions. Complexes 2 and 3 are the first fully characterized transition metal halide complexes of aldehydes. Complexes 1–3 should be useful for mechanistic studies on ZnCl 2 ‐catalyzed aldehyde reactions.
