Its not a classical carbene complex even if the C2 atom of the heterocycle in 1 (R Me, i Pr) is sp 2 configurated and the bond lengths in the carbene ligand alternate, because the YbC bond length corresponds to that of an extended single bond. Nevertheless, 1 opens the way to a class of substances for f‐block elements that has great significance in the d‐block elements.
