A remarkably simple arylboronic acid reagent for derivatization of diols enables the determination of the optical purity of diols by 1 H NMR spectroscopy by the formation of the corresponding esters 1 . This procedure could be particularly valuable as enantioselective bishydroxylations become more widely used for asymmetric syntheses.
