Both in a matrix and in the gas phase , the electronically excited state of CF 2 reacts with O 2 to form F 2 CO and ozone. These are the results of photolysis experiments with difluorodiazirine as CF 2 source. The significance of this reaction (which has not previously been taken into account) for the chemistry of the stratosphere is discussed.
