Transfer of methyl groups from 2 to 1 leads to the first Zr 3 Al 6 C 7 cluster 3 [Eq. (a)], in which six metal atoms form an open cube shielded by Al and C atoms. The ZrAl distances in the cube are remarkably short. Zr/Al/C compounds are of interest with regard to Ziegler–Natta catalysts.
