A TlTl bond 291.4 pm in length is the prominent structural feature of the thallium( II ) compound 1 , the product of the reaction of RbSi(SiMe 3 ) 3 with TlN(SiMe 3 ) 2 . The red compound 1 , which is thermally unstable in solution, can be stored for longer periods in the solid state.
