The water‐soluble dendrimer 1, functionalized at specific internal sites with twelve carborane units , and a dendrimer containing four carborane units in its first generation were generated from dendrimers containing twelve and four internal alkyne functions. This represents the first example of the modification of the interior of a dendrimer at a defined distance from its surface. Water‐soluble forms of boron are important in cancer therapy and in catalysis. R = CH 2 OCH 2 C 6 H 5 , CH 2 OH, CH 2 OSO 3 H.
