First a functionalized CC bond, then a CE bond (E O, S) are formed at the methyl propenate ligands in the title compound to afford 1 . This takes place when the starting material is treated with CS 2 and subsequently with pyridine‐ N ‐oxide or ethylenesulfide. In this reaction the CS 2 molecule is inserted exclusively into the ReC α bond of the starting material, the O or S atom into the ReC β bond of the intermediate.
