AuF + and AuF ‐ can be neutralized in the gas phase. Neutralization‐reionization mass spectrometry thus provides proof of the existence of neutral AuF, which was predicted by theory. The upper and lower limits for the bond dissociation energy could also be deduced: 68 kcal mol −1 < BDE < 85 kcal mol −1 . The AuF ions are generated by electron impact ionization from AuF 3 .
