Rate accelerations up to 400‐fold are observed for the reaction of amine 1 with 1‐chloro‐2,4‐dinitrobenzene in CHCl 3 to give 3 when simple ion pairs like tetrabutylammonium tosylate (or benzylate) are added. The exact reaction mechanism is not yet known.
