C 60 is a chemical compound just like many others —this is the result of a large number of preparative reactions, which have been reported in the last few months. The selection presented here shows that C 60 reacts, for example, as an olefin in [4 + 2], [3 + 2], and [2 + 1 ] cycloadditions. The preparative difficulties encountered at the beginning of fullerene research resulted in part from the hectic state of the initial burst of activity. After the “reign” of the physicists and physical chemists, it now appears to be the time of the preparative chemists.
