Fitting structurally on each other, the corrugated layers comprising alternately [CdNi(CN) 4 ] ∞ and H 2 O molecules are stacked in crystals of the title compound. Two H 2 O molecules coordinated trans at a Cd atom connect the layers. Six H 2 O molecules form a network of edge‐sharing hexagons through hydrogen bonding; more H atoms are present here than can be accounted for in the formation of the maximum number of hydrogen bonds in this network.
