An unsaturated, highly strained [5]metacyclophane derivative is one description of compound 2 , which was obtained by the reaction of the hexahalobispropellane precursor 1 (X C1) with t BuOK in dimethylsulfoxide. Compound 2 was characterized by NMR spectroscopy and high‐resolution mass spectrometry.
