Three strands of the oligobipyridine ligand are wound around three octahedrally coordinated Ni II ions to form a helix. In the crystal packing, each triple helix is located in the center of a hexagon of six other triple helices (picture on the right). The crystals of this compound contain varying numbers of left and right‐handed helices.
