Extended layered networks in which [M(egta)] 2− is eight‐coordinate and Mn 2+ six‐coordinate are present in the title compounds. In the case of the Mn 2 compound this leads to the novel two‐dimensional lattice sketched on the right; short range antiferromagnetic exchange interactions between the Mn II ions were found. H 4 egta = ethylenedioxybis(ethylenenitrilo)tetraacetic acid; the circles represent the magnetically nonequivalent Mn II ions.
