The efficient study of the inside of a membrane should no longer be a problem, thanks to the investigations described here. In vesicles from phospholipids, incorporated 1 (X H,D) reacts upon irradiation with a selectivity up to 90% at positions ω −1 and ω −2 of the phospholipid chains, when, at the same time, cholesterol is a constituent of the membrane in normal bioconcentrations.
