The ethanelike structure observed for the title complex is unprecedented : the six terminal imido ligands adopt a staggered arrangement when viewed along the TcTc bond. The M 2 E 6 complexes characterized so far with sterically less demanding, but also multiply bonded, ligands were without exception edgebridged tetrahedral dimers.
