The first complexes with terminal tellurido ligands such as 1–3 were synthesized; analogous sulfido complexes have been known for a long time. These compounds were postulated as molecular intermediates for the known thermal decomposition of transition metal tellurolates into the corresponding tellurides. However, the homoleptic tellurolato complexes of Group 12 metals, which have likewise only recently been accessible, are also of interest as potential one‐component precursors for II/VI semiconductors.
